2022

Towards the end of the year we opened opened a temporary solo residency in an urban setting in Los Angeles.  Visiting artists occupy an apartment within an established intentional residential community for short stays. The apartment belonged to recently deceased activist Isa-Kae Meksin who has lived there since 1966.

During 2022, Latitude For Art adds new board members and makes plans to launch website, ramp up the fundraising and discusses and plans for embedded residencies.  Future programming is developed.

Chair of Latitude For Art, Martin Cox takes a studio at The Brewery Artists Loft, “the world’s largest artist residents community” according to their website. Started in 1982 at the site of the former Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery in Lincoln Heights the passing of the Artist-In-Residence code meant that artists could rent live/work space in industrially zoned buildings. The complex spans 16 acres with 310 lofts in east Los Angeles.

It became clear that our artist residency project in Gilsfjordur, Iceland had to shut down due to loss of access to the building.  The agreement between Martin Cox and the Icelandic partners ceased.  It was an amazing time in the fjord and we are pleased to say 35 artists went though the residency experience there.  The Los Angeles apartment version of residency is a pilot programs and the board are planning for new projects and spaces as we expand our opportunities.
