An Artist Residency is formed: A farm house in Gilsfjörður, Westfjords is identified as a good candidate for an artist residency and planning begins. Martin Cox, Guðlaug Guðmunda Ingibjörg Bergsveinsdóttir and farm owner Bergsveinn Reynisson reach and agreement on running of the operation. Martin Cox becomes Artist Director, Gulla assumed Management and Beggi takes on the facility in a three way responsibility sharing. We applied for and were awarded a structural grant from the local Westfjords community. Martin Cox goes to Iceland to begin rehabbing the un-lived in house assisted by “team Brekka” Jamie Lee and Remi De Besses, many other locals assist in the effort. By mid summer we are ready to open GilsfjordurArts. Press and locals gather to celebrate the beginning on the new residency. In August our first artists come to stay from Germany and USA.
